Large Magellanic Cloud - Mosaic

Details

The Large Magellanic Cloud lies in the constellations of Mensa and Doradus. It is an SBm-type galaxy and the fourth largest galaxy in the Local Group. It shows signs of an irregular galaxy as well as those of a barred spiral galaxy. Even with relatively small telescopes, gas nebulae and numerous star clusters can be resolved in the GMC. This twofold mosaic consists of LRGB-filtered images as well as images in the light of ionized hydrogen and oxygen.
In the lower part of the image you can clearly see the bar of the galaxy and above it the impressive nebula region 30 Doradus with the Tarantula Nebula. This object is also known as GEHR, which means Giant Extragalactic H-II Region.
In the upper part, the second mosaic panel, there is a conspicuous, large star cloud. Around it there are again numerous gas nebulae and star clusters.
The image was taken during a period of eight nights in August of 2022.
