Sh2-37  IC1283/84

Details

This image was taken during my stay in Namibia in the summer of 2024. Some of the farm guests chose this object for imaging, and I nicknamed it „The Strawberry in M24.“ The main feature in the image is the gas nebula IC 1284, also cataloged as IC 1283. The red glow of ionized hydrogen is flanked by dense dark nebulae and two reflection nebulae, cataloged as VdB 118 and NGC 6590/NGC 6595. The reflection nebulae partially obscure the red glowing gas nebula.

This region of the sky is particularly fascinating because it reveals a small window into the Milky Way. In these dense areas of the galaxy, dark nebulae usually block the light of the stars behind them. However, in the upper-right portion of the image, you can see noticeably less reddened stars and a higher star density. This is a part of M24 that appears in the frame. This region is much less affected by dust and gas, which is why the stars predominantly show a bluish-white color.

On the right side of the image, below the center, there is a supernova remnant named SNR G011.1-01.0, recognizable by its fine red filament structures.

The catalog of dark nebulae in this area includes objects such as LBN 47, LBN 48, LBN 43, and LDN 315.
