Coalsack and Jewelbox


Details

Coalsack and Jewelbox are two of the most prominent objects of the southern sky. The coalsack is clearly visible as a big dark area within the milkyway, next to the southern cross. The bright star is beta crux, also called Mimosa. The Jewelbox is catalogued as NGC 4755. Another open cluster in the field is NGC 4852. The dark nebula, that is known as the Coalsack is catalogued as Caldwell 99.
